"If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go further go together” -African proverb

On beautiful Sunday in September 2019 we gathered all our friends, family and community here in Malmö, Sweden for our very first Akuko video shoot. 

Together we spent a whole day from sunrise to sunset practicing igbo speaking, filming, re-taking scenes and strengthening the bond in our community. 

Storytelling is at the heart of our brand and with the film we wanted to highlight the storytelling practise of Igbo communities in eastern Nigeria. In traditional Igbo storytelling culture, the storyteller starts with a call and response dialogue with the listeners . In this video behind the scenes, we are practicing the dialogue:

Ndị be anyi, ọnwelu akụkọ mga akọlu unuo (My people I have a story to tell)
Kọlụ anyi ka obi di anyi mma (Tell us and we will be happy)

The video was used in our crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, that was the first real step to take the Akuko dreams toward becoming a reality. The campaign was successful and we launched the first collection, the Ogene Collection in the beginning of 2020!
